Basalt and whitewash, a fort with a cannon pointed at nothing, pineapple that grows in greenhouses.

The marina wall is painted with the names of every yacht that has crossed. Found ours from 2011. Still there.

Madalena, Portugal · 3 nights

Climbed it. 2,351 metres, a crater on top of a crater, and the whole archipelago laid out like a chart.

The last island. Waterfalls into pools you could drink from. Nothing west of here but Canada.
